avast! 2014 is here!: The latest version of avast! is out... make sure you are up-to-date!
December is a busy time of year for us, and this year is no exception. Virus infections this year have been on the rise, and the viruses this year are more aggressive than in years past. While for us, most of these viruses are fairly simple to remove... they are not a laughing matter. These virus, while slowing down your computer, also often cause 'co-infections' by downloading other, more aggressive viruses. They are even getting more insidious in convincing you they are beneficial. One in particular that we have seen is called Scorpion Saver. It is advertised as a coupon finder that runs in the backrground while you are shopping retail sites online. What makes it so harmful is the amount of resources it takes while running. Worse than most infections, it can bog or computer down or even bring it to a grinding halt. Computer viruses often steal very important information like Credit Card numbers, usernames and passwords, etc, and that is why from November through April, virus activity is on the rise. As the holiday shopping season continues and as we prepare for tax season, pay close attention to where you click and how your computer is performing. If you notice an issue, get it taken care of as quickly as possible. The longer these infections stay in your computer, the more damage they can do.
Just like in a human, the biggest time to get sick is generally from October/November through Spring, oddly, the same is true for Computers... though for different reasons. Because of the dual-sided nature of our business, one side handling your technology health needs and the other handling your human holistic/natural health needs, we will also include some helpful tips not just for your computers' health this month, but also for your human health.
Some tips for this season:
Computer Health tips:
Make sure you have a good, up-to-date Antivirus program. We personally recommend avast! antivirus. This is what we use on all of our computers. You can download avast! directly through our site here: http://www.stpaulvirusremoval.com/self_help.htm. avast! offers both Windows and Mac Virus Scanners (Yes, Mac OS does get viruses), as well as one for your Android Devices (which you can download via the Play Store)
Make sure you have all the latest Service Packs, Updates, etc. In Windows, you can check the "Windows Update" feature, and in Mac, via the Software Update menu. You also want to make sure all your programs, like Java, Flash, Adobe Reader, etc, are also up-to-date, and with the latest version of avast!, the program will notify you of any updates that are available for many other programs installed on your computer. With the Premier edition of avast!, you can also set it to automatically update major 3rd party programs for you!
Human Health tips:
For the Common Cold during this season, try: 1/4 tsp of Cinnamon with some Raw Unheated Honey in Hot Water 2 to 3 times a day. Also, Zand throat lozenges are great for busy people on the go, we love the Elderberry Zinc.
Sitting at a Computer for hours on end is horrific for your spine. The nerves in the spine, when subluxated, can diminish the capacity of your immune system. Below, you will find 3 Chiropractors that we love. Also, a small pillow at the lower back can help with proper posture while sitting at a computer. Additionally, make sure your arms are level with your keyboard/mouse when using them. You don't want the keyboard/mouse up to high, down to low, or too far forward (elbows should be at a 90 degree angle). Additionally, we also have fantastic Spine Relaxation therapies with Colorpuncture, so you can also schedule a 60-minute De-stress and Rejuvenation Session with Psinergy Natural Health. (and take an additional $10 off with Psinergy Natural Health when you use code "HolidayStress2013" or mention this newsletter)
A new virus that locks a computer's hard drive and then demands money is attacking businesses in Minnesota.
It even has computer technicians stumped, like Rod Rotzien of Rockford-based Techwarrior Technologies. "It's the equivalent of getting your child kidnapped, and they hold it ransom for money," he said.
The virus is called Cryptolocker, and it targets computers running Windows. It locks you out of data in your computer's hard drive and basically holds it hostage unless you pay a fee, typically hundreds of dollars.
"Now, Dasher! now, Dancer! now, Prancer and Vixen!
On, Comet! on Cupid! on, Donder and Blitzen!"
Psinergy is about more than just computers!
